Application 154- Frankenstein Bolt Fastening Measurement

Application Summary
Ensuring that the monster’s head stays in place, our good friend Dr. Frankenstein uses FUTEK’s LTH Thru-Hole Load Cells to measure the tightening forces applied to his bolts.

Products in Use
Thru-Hole/Donut Load Cell (LTH Series) paired with TRS Rotary Torque Sensor and Instrumentation (USB Solutions).

How it Works
  1. It would be "off with his head" if Dr. Frankenstein were to let his monster's bolts loosen.
  2. Not wanting to overshadow the infamous tale of the headless horseman, Dr. Frankenstein used FUTEK's Rotary Torque Sensor to ensure that the torque he applied as he tightened the bolts would withstand the ravages of time.
  3. Yet, Frankenstein didn't want to over torque the bolts as well. Thus, he incorporated the use for FUTEK's Thru-Hole Load Cell to fine-tune this procedure.
  4. His precise measurements for both torque and force were streamed via the blood red USB520 device and the onyx USB220 to be displayed onto his 21st Century Turing Machine.
  5. To learn more about bolt fastening in a realistic setting, see application 102.

QuickLabel Introduces The Kiaro! External Pause Control Module.

Your Kiaro!/Kiaro! D Can Integrate with a Label Applicator in Loose-Loop Configuration via the External Pause Module.

QuickLabel 's Kiaro! and Kiaro! D printers easily support loose-loop integration with automatic label applicators via the use of the Kiaro! External Pause Control module. This interface module can trigger the Kiaro! to print a batch of labels, pause, or stop – all the functionality necessary to fill a loose loop.
The Kiaro! External Pause Control module allows a Kiaro! or Kiaro! D label printer to be controlled via a simple pause/go pulse from a host label applicator system that can be mated with the printer by a system integrator.
The module also allows the end user to download a batch of labels and print/eject one label at a time using a button on the module. This pre-programmed module eliminates the need to read and understand the commands that are sent to the printer, or the need to program the controller to send those commands at the right time and in the right sequence.
The Kiaro! External Pause Control module can be configured to print a single label at a time, or multiple labels (2, 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100) or the entire print job.
The unit operates in “Standard” printing mode by default, where the Kiaro! automatically manages print head cleaning and maintenance between print cycles

Features:
  • Allow simple, seamless integration of the Kiaro! and Kiaro! D with external devices such as a label applicator
  • Eliminates the need for costly, time-consuming control system programming and debugging
  • LCD display acts as a local status monitor for printer activity, no need to go back to host computer for detailed printer status, over 65 status/warning/error messages
  • Printer status can be reported through external hardware such as a light pole, audible alert or other device
  • Multiple configurable internal or external logic levels support connection to a wide range of external devices
  • One Year Warranty, Fully supported and guaranteed to work with the Kiaro! and Kiaro! D by QuickLabel Systems
  • Dimensions: 4.0” W x 2.25” H x 4.875” D (102mm W x 57mm H x 124mm D)

Futek Introduces the new IAA Family

Introducing the new IAA Family - two in-line amplifiers for any full bridge strain gauge sensor with mV/V range outputs. These two models provide either voltage or current output. The sleek enclosure is durable allowing the amplifier to be used in a wide range of industrial environments and includes an integrated DIN clip. We invite you to explore all of the features the IAA100 and IAA200 have to offer.

256 Shunt Selections
Shunt resistors allow our users to simulate measurements, verifying whether their sensor(s) still meet their initial specs. Our IAA models feature 8 shunt resistors, which offer our users up to 256 different shunt combinations.

Screw Terminal Connectors
With the release of this new amplifier, our team evaluated all opportunities to improve function and performance. The IAA models feature a screw terminal. Not only do they decrease the noise, but they're also easier to use.

Robust Construction
To help ease integration, we fixed a DIN rail clip onto the aluminum housing of our amplifiers. Switching from a plastic enclosure to an aluminum one also increases its durability while still being able to maintain its light weight.

Impressive Input Range
Input ranges vary so having a product that caters to a wide sensitivity range of sensitivity is helpful. That's why our Electrical Engineering team developed the IAA models to accepts an input range from 0.5 to 10.0 mV/V.

Application 153 Oktoberfest Fermentation Tank Measurement

Application Summary
Perfecting a good beer takes equal parts of great grains, as well as great equipment. Fermentation vessels are integral in the outcome of beer's taste, color, and alcohol content. Load cells are used to monitor the tank's contents throughout the brewing process.

Products in Use
Four Pancake Load Cells (LCF Family) paired with instrumentation (IAC200 and USB520).

How it Works

  1. In commercial breweries, the contents of fermentation tanks (vessels) need to be accurately gaged throughout it's brewing period. These breweries tend to use load cells at the base of their tanks to monitor these measurements.
  2. In this depiction, four LCF Family pancake load cells were installed at the base of each of the tank's posts.
  3. After the fermentation process concludes, the brewers will need to drain the tank to proceed with packaging the beer.
  4. As this occurs, a carefully siphoned amount of liquid leaves the tank. This measurement is monitored by the LCF load cells and passed to a summing junction box (IAC200).
  5. The summing junction box averages the beer's emptying rate from the tank and streams that to the USB520, which can display the data on a PC.

Short Circuit Analysis for Railway Power Supply Systems

Short-circuit analysis at railway power supply systems is a typical application for the Transient recording function of the Dewesoft power analyser. At the expansion of short-circuits in railway power supply systems it is often assumed that the short-circuit current is split in thirds.

One third flows via the return conductor, one third via the rail track and one third in the earth. In reality, the results differs a lot and strongly depends on the ambient conditions (soil, grounding, etc.).

The Dewesoft Power Analyser allows measuring the expansion of the short-circuit with automatic evaluation. Parameters like peak current, AC and DC part of the short circuit, time of the short circuit and a lot more can be calculated. Furthermore high-speed cameras and thermal imaging cameras can be connected to the system for comprehensive analysis.

Highlights

  • High sampling rate
  • Storing raw data
  • Analysis at all line frequencies (16.7Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, etc.)
  • Triggering on different channels (analogue, digital, math, power, power quality etc.)
Typical configuration
  • SIRIUS R2DB
  • 1x Voltage
  • 7x Current
