Video on advantages of i20 Peer to Peer Communication Technology

Acromag presents a general view of i2o peer-to-peer technology. See how i2o technology, in combination with Acromag BusWorks™ series, works as a solution with your existing infrastructure. No PLC, controller, or software necessary. Using minimal wiring and simple configuration, these standalone units are your answer for reliable fail safe communication.

A few points featured in this video:
The benefits of peer-to-peer technology
How i2o is configured and mapped
Examples of applications and industries that benefit from i2o

Application Note on how to provide a reliable way to communicate with multiple distant locations

Take a look as our supplier Acromag illustrates how their BusWorks XT Series Ethernet I/O modules provide a reliable, simple way to communicate with multiple distant locations.

With Acromag's i2o® peer-to-peer communication on the XT1111 Modbus/TCP discrete I/O module, one signal from the central control room PLC can be split and re-transmitted to many remote sites at the same time.

This document illustrates using Acromag's BusWorks® XT Ethernet I/O modules to split one signal from a central control room PLC and control multiple remote locations using Ethernet protocol.

Defining the Problem:

A customer has multiple remote locations linked over an Ethernet network, each requiring discrete outputs. They all need to be sent the same communication signal at the same time.

System Requirements:

• All remote sites need to be controlled simultaneously from one central control room via Ethernet protocol

Implementing the Solution:
Featured Products:
1. Set up the Ethernet communication between master PLC device and the BusWorks XT discrete I/O modules (XT1111)• 16-Channel Discrete I/O, Modbus/TCP XT1111-000
2. Connect the field instruments and verify input status using the software test & polling feature• 16-Channel Discrete I/O, with Counter/Timers 989EN-4C16
3. Program the BAS with the remote I/O network
parameters and Modbus registers.
• Software Interface Package XT-SIP

Why Acromag:
Our BusWorks XT Modbus/TCP remote I/O modules include a peer-to-peer feature known as i2o, where two or more slaves can talk to each other without requiring a master. With i2o communication, one signal from the PLC is split by the XT1111 modules and sent to multiple locations. The XT1111 automatically re-transmits the discrete level to each 989EN module's IP address, thus reproducing the status of the original PLC input.

Acromag expands their Ethernet I/O Busworks XT Series Modules to include models with multiple functionality

Acromag's BusWorks XT Series are a rugged, flexible line of Ethernet I/O modules that feature channel versatility with housing built to withstand harsh industrial environments. Rugged construction, high density design, and convenient USB programming make these instruments ideal for many applications including: remote monitoring, distributed control, and SCADA.

Each module processes I/O signals on up to sixteen channels and features dual Ethernet ports, as well as plug gable front-facing terminals, for more convenient wiring.   Acromag offers the ability to choose to interface signal devices on any of three different protocols: PROFINET, Ethernet/IP and Modbus/TCP with i2o® peer to peer. This arrangement allows daisy-chaining of modules to simplify installation and minimise switch requirements which reduces cost.

Acromag's latest product development is the introduction of the following multi-function BusWorks XT Series Ethernet I/O Modules.

  • Model XT1530 is a Multifunction Ethernet I/O Module with 4 –channel analogue current output, 4 channel discrete I/O and 12-32V DC Power.
  • Model XT1540 is a Multifunction Ethernet I/O Modules with 8-channel analogue voltage output, 4 channel discrete I/O and 12-32 V DC Power.

Ethernet I/O Simplifies Communication Between One PLC and Multiple Remote Locations

Defining the Problem:

A customer has multiple remote locations linked over an Ethernet network, each requiring discrete outputs. They all need to be sent the same communication signal at the same time.

Implementing the Solution:

  1. Set up Ethernet communication between master PLC device and the BusWorks XT discrete I/O module (XT1111).
  2. Connect the XT1111 module and the remote site discrete I/O modules (989EN) to an Ethernet network.
  3. Configure the XT module to use Acromag’s i2o peer-to peer communication to replicate the PLC’s discrete signal to 8 other multiple locations by IP address.

Featured Products:

  • 16-Channel Discrete I/O, Modbus/TCP XT1111-00
  • 16-Channel Discrete I/O, with Counter/Timers 989EN-4C16
