The White Paper has landed - on gathering rotary torque sensor with encoder data

If you’ve ever had a hard time interpreting the encoder output from your Rotary Torque Sensor then this technical document from Futek might mean a lot to you.

They have written a white paper where you’ll discover:
  • How the USB520’s performance reduces the negatives of traditional platforms.
  • How the USB520 easily integrates in Rotary Torque Sensor applications.
  • How to get maximum value from one USB solution.

Check out their  white paper here

If you have any questions, feel free to shoot us back an email. We’ll be happy to answer!

FUTEK’S exciting new redesign of their high precision USB Measurement Instruments leads to a higher accuracy with a slimmer footprint.

FUTEK Advanced Sensor Technology announced their newly redesigned USB520 and USB530. In redesigning the USB520 and USB530 - they considered customer feedback from the original model to ensure that the USBs were compact in size whilst still delivering little noise interference, great speed, and superior accuracy and nonlinearity (±0.005% of FSR).

FUTEK's USB520 and USB530 eliminate the need for a power supply and digital equipment, and come out of the box with a plug-and-play connection to a PC. The USB520 and USB530 work with strain gauge mV/V inputs, voltage inputs, current inputs, and encoder inputs, making them compatible with various industry applications.

Product Highlights:

  • USB 2.0 Communications Link
  • Non-Linearity & Accuracy of ±0.005% of FSR
  • Internal Resolution of 24 bits
  • USB520 sampling rate up to 4,800 SPS
  • USB530 sampling rate up to 14,000 SPS
  • Plug In & Play Solution
  • Multiple Input Options

Application 153 Oktoberfest Fermentation Tank Measurement

Application Summary
Perfecting a good beer takes equal parts of great grains, as well as great equipment. Fermentation vessels are integral in the outcome of beer's taste, color, and alcohol content. Load cells are used to monitor the tank's contents throughout the brewing process.

Products in Use
Four Pancake Load Cells (LCF Family) paired with instrumentation (IAC200 and USB520).

How it Works

  1. In commercial breweries, the contents of fermentation tanks (vessels) need to be accurately gaged throughout it's brewing period. These breweries tend to use load cells at the base of their tanks to monitor these measurements.
  2. In this depiction, four LCF Family pancake load cells were installed at the base of each of the tank's posts.
  3. After the fermentation process concludes, the brewers will need to drain the tank to proceed with packaging the beer.
  4. As this occurs, a carefully siphoned amount of liquid leaves the tank. This measurement is monitored by the LCF load cells and passed to a summing junction box (IAC200).
  5. The summing junction box averages the beer's emptying rate from the tank and streams that to the USB520, which can display the data on a PC.

Futek releases the New USB520

Adjectives for USB devices typically waver of the grounds of fast, ease of use, and precise; but what about robust, multi-functional, reliable, and adaptable? With the USB520, all of these adjectives ring true.

Futek's Electrical Engineering Department is proud to announce their latest USB module: an external USB module for amplified, non-amplified, and encoder input sensors. Suitable for test and measurement applications ranging from machine builders to laboratory environments, the USB520 offers great speed, resolution and stability with minimized noise and non-linearity.

Features:

Plug & Play Solution
In more robust applications, it's harder to find a plug and play USB solution. You're usually faced with selecting a bench top or panel mount. Not anymore. The USB520 is a durable, high precision instrument allowing direct communication between your sensor and PC.
Multiple Input Options
Let's face it, versatility is key. We know that transducers have multiple outputs, alluding to the need for a compatible instrument. The USB520 works with strain gauge mV/V input, voltage input, current input, and encoder inputs.

Switchable Profile Settings
Aside from the standard current, mV/V, and voltage profiles set ups, the USB520 has four additional profile channels. This gives it the ability to measure four different sensors with the same instrument.
Encoder Measurements
Until the USB520, our IHH500 Elite was the only instrument capable of measuring rotary torque encoder readings (angle and speed). Now, we have another solution, a more compact solution that feeds your data directly into your PC
